Personally, as Sally Parker and I were once in a terrible accident, because of a defective Ryder truck she'd rented and, would very probably be dead now if we were not wearing seatbelts, I've got to agree that seatbelts do save lives.

But, it's like the smoking bans, only the bar owner or restauranteer should have the authority to say whether or not he will allow cigarettes in his establishment. So, while I personally would never be without a seatbelt nor, would I permit it in my own cars, I don't think I have the right to choose for other drivers.

0n a similar note. We think the safety seat for children is important. We say this because children are not old enough, or wise enough, to choose for themselves what is right or what is wrong.

Here in formerly "Free Amerikia" laws multiply faster than cockroaches and most of them serve no function other than to oppress the public and make their lives harsh and hellish.

here is another something to think about...since taxpayers and insurance premium payers eventually bear the financial brunt of the medical expenses of those who choose to go without seatbelts, whose freedom is really infringed upon by allowing seatbelt choice? No one's freedoms are taken away by seatbelt laws. People are still free to refrain from using taxpayers roadways if they don't want to wear a seatbelt. this is not a governmental control issue. it is a matter of fiscal common sense. i prefer not to finance the stupidity of others. also, those who wish to go without seatbelts can pay the fine and consider it an installment towards their future emergency medical care!

I Think the point he was trying to make is that people shouldn't have to wear a seatbelt, because of the different veiwpoints on it. Some people find it nessecary, others find it useless. So we should just let people decide. Being forced to wear a seat-belt is sort of like being forced to waer on acctual belt. Its to keep your pants from falling down...but some people hate them and find them uncomfortable to wear.

i know the point he was trying to make and i don't subscribe to his argument. doesn't cut it for me! a lame argument, from someone who is likely to end up lame because he is too uncomfortable to wear a seatbelt. he may end up "seat belted" to a wheel chair because he can't keep himself in it as a quad. it may be his right to end up in a wheel chair, but i sure don't want to pay for it and that is what ends up happening! i also don't think i should be subjected to the sight of his blood and guts all over the place if i happen to drive by after he has had an accident! and i don't want to think about how sad his mother would be without him either for that matter. but those last two are beside the point and just me whining.

all i can say is just wear your seatbelt and whine about something important, like all the laws that REALLY infringe on our rights! or better yet, do something about the laws that really infringe on our rights!
